We are excited to welcome you to Duke University for the 2026-27 academic year!

DUKE STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD

Physical Duke Student IDs will be available on the weekend of move-in for your convenience or by visiting The DukeCard Office located in Perkins library at The Link.

Please remember to bring a valid driver’s license or passport when picking up your DukeCard—copies or screenshots cannot be accepted. This card is an ID only approved for NC voting and provides no functionality on campus for doors or finance transactions.

Your DukeCard on Your Apple or Android Mobile Device

Before you arrive on campus, complete the Back to School tasks to help you get up and running as soon as possible. You can add your Mobile DukeCard to your mobile device as soon as your DukeCard photo has been approved.

Designate Your Chosen/Preferred FIRST Name

Duke University students can designate their chosen/preferred first name for display on your Mobile DukeCard. Go to DukeHub and select "My Profile" then click the pencil icon next to "Preferred Name" to update your information.

Dining Plans

As a first-year student, you are required to purchase a dining plan, and you'll use your DukeCard for access to the dining halls. For more information, see the Duke Dining site.

Athletic Events

You may use your DukeCard for authorized access to athletic events, including basketball and football games, on campus.

Residence Halls and Academic Buildings Access

Access to residence halls is controlled by your DukeCard. Use your card for access to your residence hall around the clock. Many other buildings on campus are locked after hours, but you will be able to use your DukeCard to gain access if you are authorized. You can find more information about using wireless locks and how to report a problem here.

FOOD/FLEX Accounts

Students can add funds to their food or flex accounts to be billed to their bursar, or you can add via a debit/credit card. Please see Manage Your DukeCard.
